How to build a developer portfolio that hiring managers can scan
8 min Β· 2026-08-02
A hiring manager will not read twelve half-finished tutorial clones. They will open your profile for a few minutes and decide whether you look like someone who can finish work.
Pin a small number of repositories. Each should have a clear README: what the project does, how to run it, what you built, and what you would improve next. Screenshots or a live demo help when the work is visual.
Prefer one strong project with decisions you can explain over five identical to-do apps. Label practice work honestly. Supervised or client work should only be called that when it is true.
Your portfolio site, GitHub, CV, and LinkedIn should tell the same story. Inconsistency is louder than a missing technology badge.
